About Playwright

Playwright is an open-source framework for web testing and automation, with support for Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. Builders can use its test runner to check a signup journey, a key product action, or a billing flow in a controlled environment. Locators, automatic waiting, assertions, and traces help explain what a test did and where it failed. The framework is available under the Apache 2.0 license; compute, CI, and hosted services can have their own costs. Start with a few important user outcomes and repeatable test data. Ask your coding assistant to help maintain the checks, then review whether each assertion proves the expected behavior.

Cross-browser automation

Drive Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit through a consistent automation API for supported web workflows.

Assertions and automatic waiting

Check user-visible outcomes using locators and assertions that support repeatable browser tests.

Traces and debugging tools

Inspect a failed run with tracing and debugging tools to understand the actions, page state, and failing check.

Build, then get discovered
