VALUE PROPOSITION TESTING WORKSHEET Original ShowMeYourSaaS resource — 2026-10-27 Guide: https://showmeyoursaas.com/articles/value-proposition/ WORK FROM THE CUSTOMER SITUATION Intended customer and specific recent job: Who uses, who buys, and who approves a change: Current alternative, including manual work or postponing the task: Desired outcome and why it matters: Product behavior proposed to support that outcome: Conditions that must hold for the benefit to occur: Evidence already observed: Contradicting evidence and unresolved uncertainty: THREE ORIGINAL FICTIONAL EXAMPLES BriefBoard: a studio keeps brief inputs and a missing-information checklist together before kickoff instead of reconstructing email threads. Test whether the studio can find and resolve missing inputs for one representative project. SeatLedger: an operator sees assigned seat owners and renewal records before a software renewal. Test whether those records are complete and current. RunbookPing: the next operator receives incident ownership, status, and next update time in one handoff. Test whether they can identify what to do next. These are proposed benefits, not measured customer claims or real products. COMPLETED BRIEFBOARD HYPOTHESIS CARD Situation: a small design studio preparing a recurring client brief. Alternative: email threads plus a separate file folder. Outcome: identify missing information before kickoff. Mechanism: one brief record with a visible missing-input checklist. Assumptions: clients can use the route and staff keep the checklist current. Evidence needed: observed completion, missing inputs found, willingness to change the process, and a buying decision under a stated offer. Contradictions: the existing process works reliably or the new route adds work. ILLUSTRATIVE TIME-VALUE ARITHMETIC Invented inputs: 8 tasks/week; 12 minutes/task in process A; 8 minutes/task in B. Modeled time difference = 8 × (12−8) = 32 minutes/week. At an assumed $30/hour: 32/60 × $30 = $16/week of estimated time value. This is not observed performance, cash saved, revenue, or a price recommendation. Time released is not automatically time sold. Record work shifted elsewhere. CLAIM LEDGER Proposed public wording: Intended audience and comparison: Metric, denominator, observation window, and measurement method: Raw evidence location and date: Evidence status: untested / observed / contradicted / unclear Conditions and exclusions: What stronger claim is NOT supported: Owner and next review: SEPARATE THREE TESTS 1. Understanding: can the intended reader explain the promise accurately? 2. Delivery: does the workflow produce the proposed result with realistic input? 3. Demand: does someone choose the offer over an alternative at stated terms? A clear sentence, compliment, completed task, and payment are different evidence. A randomized message test additionally needs an appropriate design and sample. NEXT DECISION One question, method, owner, bounded time/cost, and review date: What result would change your mind?
