INCIDENT TABLETOP — ORIGINAL FICTIONAL QUEUENOTE EXERCISE Checked 2026-10-28. Discussion only. https://showmeyoursaas.com/articles/incident-response-plan/ No live service, real credential, customer record, or external communication is involved. FACILITATION Purpose: test whether participants can find authority, preserve uncertainty, route evidence, and hand over work. Participants: fictional incident coordinator, service owner, security responder, communications owner. Use role labels, not real secrets or customer data. Record every missing decision as an action with an owner. Completing this meeting does not prove technical containment or recovery. STARTING SCENARIO A support report says an integration key may have appeared in a shared diagnostic note. The note's exact distribution and key scope are not yet established. Known: a report exists. Unknown: whether a valid credential was exposed, who had access, whether it was used, and whether data was affected. DISCUSSION 1 — TRIAGE Which controlled record will hold the incident? How will the team identify the note and credential reference without reposting the secret? Who has authority and appropriate access to inspect the evidence? When must the designated security responder be engaged? What can be said as established fact at this point? INJECT 1 — DECISION OWNER UNAVAILABLE The primary containment owner cannot be reached. Questions: where is the fallback recorded? Which approved contact method works without the main chat? Do not invent authority merely to keep the exercise moving. INJECT 2 — AMBIGUOUS ACTIVITY A synthetic activity record overlaps the possible exposure window. It does not distinguish legitimate integration activity from misuse. Questions: what additional evidence is needed? Who examines it? Which claim remains unknown? INJECT 3 — SERVICE CONSEQUENCE An approved credential-state change is discussed, and a legitimate workflow may stop. Questions: who weighs the protective action and service impact? Which accepted jobs remain? How will the actual intended credential state and permitted behavior be verified? The exercise supplies no live command and performs no rotation or revocation. INJECT 4 — CUSTOMER QUESTION A fictional customer asks whether their data was affected. Questions: what is known for that customer's permitted scope? Who approves the response? Which specialist handles notification and contractual questions? Do not infer no exposure from a healthy service status. FICTIONAL DRAFT UPDATE FOR DISCUSSION ONLY We are investigating a reported integration-credential concern. We are checking the affected scope and relevant activity through the incident process. The impact is not yet established. The designated communications owner will provide the next update at the agreed point. Do not send this text about a real event without verified facts and the actual approval process. RECOVERY DISCUSSION What checks must pass before ordinary operation resumes? Which uncertainty remains with a named specialist? What temporary control remains active? How is the next operator briefed? DEBRIEF Decision or contact gap: Evidence-handling gap: Unclear action or authority: Required technical test in an authorized environment: Owner / next step / verification: Plan revision: No actual compromise, response, recovery, or customer outcome occurred in this exercise.
