BUSINESS MODEL ASSUMPTIONS AND EVIDENCE WORKSHEET Original supplemental resource by ShowMeYourSaaS — 2026-10-27 Guide: https://showmeyoursaas.com/articles/business-model-canvas/ FRAMEWORK ATTRIBUTION The Business Model Canvas was developed by Alex Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur and is associated with Strategyzer. For the official visual template, use: https://www.strategyzer.com/library/the-business-model-canvas This document is an original supplemental assumptions/evidence worksheet, not a reproduction or rebranding of the creators' visual canvas. MODEL VERSION Business/model name: Date, version, owner, and next review: One intended customer situation: Who uses, who buys, and who approves: Proposed value exchange and current alternative: Discovery, evaluation, setup, and repeat-use route: Work, resources, and providers needed to deliver the promise: Revenue unit, billing interval, and pricing assumptions: Delivery costs, shared costs, labor, and acquisition effort: What is observed versus merely assumed: ORIGINAL FICTIONAL BRIEFBOARD MODEL Customer: small design studios preparing recurring client briefs. Proposed outcome: see required brief inputs and missing information before kickoff. Discovery hypothesis: founder conversations, relevant guides, and referrals. Delivery hypothesis: founder-assisted first setup, then repeat self-service use. Offer hypothesis: $40/month for one workspace. Delivery work: maintain the app and storage, resolve failures, help setup, maintain documentation, review usage limits, and keep providers configured. These are invented model choices, not validated customers or an existing offer. INVENTED MONTHLY COST SCENARIO 10 workspaces × $40 = $400 modeled recurring revenue. 10 workspaces × $10 assumed direct delivery cost = $100. Gross profit under this definition = $400−$100 = $300. Assumed shared tools = $60/month. Remainder before omitted costs = $300−$60 = $240. Omitted: founder compensation, acquisition, tax, other overhead, refunds, cash timing, and changing usage. The $240 is NOT net profit. Two workspaces contribute 2×($40−$10)=$60, covering ONLY the shared-tool estimate; this is not complete business break-even. DEPENDENCY CHECKS If file sizes, usage, or retention change, what happens to delivery cost? If every new account needs founder help, what capacity is available? If the segment changes, what changes in buying, access, support, and price? If a provider changes availability or terms, what could the model require? Which public product promises depend on untested delivery assumptions? EVIDENCE RECORD (repeat for each consequential assumption) Assumption and connected model choices: Evidence status: untested / observed task / transaction / contradicted / unclear Source and date: What the evidence establishes: What remains uncertain: Next bounded test and result that would change the model: Decision, owner, and review date: Keep this model consistent with the current value proposition and go-to-market plan. Filling a canvas does not establish demand or economic sustainability.
